Thin brick veneer units are made much like the full size brick without the weight. Also with thin brick a footing is not needed just a substrate for the brick to install on. Thin brick veneer is made from clay or shale. There is standard to architectural brick along with many colors. The thin brick veneer can also be installed with a metal paneling system. This panel system is installed on the sheathing then the brick is placed with in each setting. The system will keep the think brick veneer straight and even which helps with architectural designs. Mortar is then tuck pointed or grouted. Another system is a gasket for tilt ups and precast applications which is more for commercial and this will help keep labor cost down but it also adds material costs. There are many systems and new innovative ways for thin brick veneers but the most common to date is installing a permeable membrane, lath, scratch coat and then your thin brick veneer. The grout can either be smashed out through the edges or tuck pointed and grouted. There are other factors you must consider when installing thin brick veneer such as flashing, drainage tracks and weeps. Most important is the application process. The thin brick veneer can pop off if not properly installed. Weather conditions is another factor when installing a manufactured stone or thin brick. Mortar can freeze before it has time to cure. Boding agents must follow through it’s chemical process for it to adhere to the substrate. Adding additives during off weather conditions will help with the boding process. We are aware of the circumstances when installing Thin brick veneers or Manufactured stone.
